BRAINPULSE - flash your thought to create a brainwave

Intelligent Lighting Institute turns TU/e Main Building into an interactive facade for GLOW

This year marks the 11th lustrum of the Einhoven University of Technology. In 55 years, the TU/e grown to become a worldwide famous for the successes in translating scientific research into innovation.

The TU/e has widespread connections with society and industry and is able to use these connections to give direct meaning to scientific discoveries in the region. With the recent ‘Brainport smartest region in the world’ proclamation, where the TU/e plays a large role, as an example.

This connecting quality the TU/e has, will be reflected during GLOW through an interactive installation on the main building’s facade. The installation allows visitors to experience the mind of the researchers: 222 lamps translate the building into an enormous ‘brain’.

Visitors are invited to use their cameras to flash towards the main building’s ‘brain’ to create new brain waves, connecting the waves, and to give birth to new ideas.

Wanneer bezoekers met hun camera flitsen naar het hoofdgebouw, laten zij nieuwe hersengolven ontstaan die door het gebouw schieten, zich met elkaar verbinden en daarmee nieuwe ideeën laten ontstaan.

This is what happens in our brains and what happens at the Eindhoven University of Techonology.

BRAINpulse is invented and realized by 26 design students working within OPENLIGHT, the creative lab of the Intelligent Lighting Institute. The project is a tribute to the brainchild of the late Prof. Kees Overbeeke, whose passionated coaching gave shape to the largest part of the project.
