(DIS)APPEARANCE

Light defines space and makes our surroundings visible to us. By adding light to spaces where you would not expect it to be, objects can be perceived completely different than they actually are.

The appearance of the skate bowl in AreFiftyOne is transformed entirely during GLOW. By taking away shadow, colour and texture and replacing this by projecting patterns and shapes, the skate bowl will become unrecognizable. Discover what elements depth is based on. (DIS)APPEARANCE was developed by three Honors Program students in a collaboration with OPENLIGHT, the creative lab of the Intelligent Lighting Institute at the Eindhoven University of Technology. For over a year they have analysed different aspects of light and how to translate and explain an aspect of light into an installation.
