GLOW module - LUMOS 3

Shooting a good video is not an easy job.. Our concept requires two beamers at the same time; one of which should even be hung high enough for projection on the ground. The positioning of both of them took us hours to finish. The whole shooting process finished around 0'o clock in the morning. Thanks to Bart and Rob who worked all-night to make the video available in time. Please keep an eye on this blog for further information.

GLOW module - LUMOS 2

Although the multi-cultural background slows down the process sometimes, still we turn in into our strength from the very beginning of the day.

The rest of the process went smooth after we dicided to go for living creatures. The whole day was full of prototyping. Since the tour path is an important part in our concept, we captured an image from Google Maps and turn it into a vector image that sent for laser cutting. The day was finished with a complete set of the prototype that was almost ready for video shooting.

Waking the Sleeping Giant - video

This is a first video showing the lighting design proposition for our Sleeping Giant concept. Visitors use lights to wake the Sleeping Giant also known as the Main Building, provoking a reaction.

We're currently reworking the concept to increase the quality of both interactions and visuals, stay tuned..

Glow module - BrainPulse concept

BrainPulse is a concept inspired by the central nerve system of the human. The main building can be seen as a giant nerve center of the TU/e. The main building as center of the university campus is the focus point of all new ideas influenced by society. The visitors of Glow can communicated with this center by transmitting signals in the form of light flashes. These flashes resemble stimuli that are received by the human senses and these form the inspiration for new ideas. These ideas gather insight the university, where these loose ideas are combined into innovations that change the world.

GLOW Module - The Sleeping Giant

Our team (Marco, Meerthe, Lilly, Jeroen, Vincent and Vivian) started the Module's first day be exploring the building and especially its environment as part of the GLOW route.

The central theme of our ideas was to use the lighting installation to bring life to the main building.

Exploring the environment and entrance path to the TU/e installations, we were intrigued by a narrative that builds upon the collosal buildings that inhabit the TU campus. The campus is a comfortable home to some and an unknown territory to many others. Our direction aims to bring the Main Building, the biggest of the giants that have moved here since the 60's, and make it come alive.

We want it to react to the visitors that enter its domain by giving it a sense of emotion and a morphing physicality to express this. Our idea is to project a grid of triangular shapes onto the main building. This grid is strongly related to the buiding's more modernist character, while allowing it to change shape through e.g. ripples across its surface or by becoming pointy and moving aggresively. The image below shows a sketch of the projection in spatial terms.
