OPENLIGHT was the creative lab of the Intelligent Lighting Institute, set-up by Philips and Eindhoven University of Technology:
OPENLIGHT was co-founded and headed by designer, engineer and entrepreneur Rombout Frieling
The labs set out to allow young talent to discover the potential of the field of light, by allowing them to create experiences.
OPENLIGHT actively identified new themes, inspires and brought disciplines together to bring new possibilities forward.
Since summer 2016, the activities have transferred to the ROMBOUT Frieling lab.

4 OPENLIGHT INSTALLATIONS AT GLOW NEXT EINDHOVEN
OPENLIGHT presented a record of 4 installations at GLOW, the annual forum of Light & Architecture in Eindhoven from From 7-14 November.
FREDERIK is a new installation developed by students with the OPENLIGHT team playing with shadow in a new way, conveying the dynamics and meanings of the history of the site: the former Philips factories. Read more here.
LIVING ELEMENTS is a new installation developed by students at OPENLIGHT in collaboration with Philips.
Both installations are shown to the public at GLOW NEXT, part of GLOW, the annual forum for light & architecture in Eindhoven.
A new version of our renowned WAVES installation is installed at the main GLOW route.route.
Finally, SCOPOFHOBIA is an experimental setup developed by students and shown at GLOW NEXT.

WAVES and IRIS at Maria Theresienplatz in Vienna
The City of Vienna will be illuminated by our WAVES and IRIS installations from 24 until 25 October during ‘Wien Leuchtet’. (Vienna Lights up).
Both installations were developed in masterclasses by students and the OPENLIGHT team and developed further by OPENLIGHT as ‘out-of-the-box’ experiences which now travel through Europe.
